We’ve now worked through all of the Mail Order Mysteries… and I can confidently say—these have been one of the most engaging learning experiences we’ve ever done at home.

Each mystery arrives in 6 mailed installments, slowly unfolding a story over time.

Inside each one:

– letters

– clues

– puzzles

– small “treasures” at the end

And each installment turned into about 1–2 hours of problem solving, researching, and deep curiosity.

And the best part?

My kids didn’t feel like they were “learning” at all.

🏴‍☠️ Pirate Mystery (our first—and a huge hit)

This is where we started—and it completely hooked my 8-year-old.

He fully believed it was real, which made the whole experience even more fun.

This mystery walks kids through solving clues tied to:

– maps and geography

– pirate history

– ocean life

– basic ciphers

What I loved most is how naturally it led us into deeper learning:

We ended up researching locations, plants, shark species, and historical pirates.

A little simpler than some of the others—but that’s what makes it such a great starting point.

✨ Enchanted Slumber (one of our favorites)

This one felt completely different—softer, more story-driven, and really sweet.

The storyline centers around:

– kindness

– love

But it still includes:

– code breaking

– pattern recognition

– problem-solving challenges

This one inspired us in a totally different direction.

We ended up checking out fairytales from different countries at the library, which turned into its own learning thread.

Balanced take:

Slightly less “mystery-heavy,” but incredibly meaningful and inspiring.

🕵️ Spies, Lies & Serious Bad Guys

This one was such a fun shift—and had a really entertaining (and unexpected) twist at the end.

The focus here is on:

– spy history

– secret messages

– cryptography

This one naturally led us into:

– library research

– YouTube rabbit holes

– learning about real-world spies and code systems

👉 Great for curious kids who like problem-solving and strategy

Balanced take:

A bit more complex—but in a really engaging way.

⏳ Time Travel Mystery

This one was really interesting—and honestly, probably the most educationally dense of all of them.

The format is slightly different, and we ended up working through it more as a group.

It introduces:

– different time periods

– historical concepts

– cause-and-effect thinking

👉 This one gave us a LOT of directions to continue learning afterward.

Balanced take:

I would recommend this for slightly older kids or as a group activity—but it was still really cool and full of information we could carry into future learning.

🐾 Bigfoot Mystery

This one felt more like a classic mystery setup, with a fun twist.

Still engaging and interactive, with:

– clue solving

– observation

– logical thinking

👉 My kids enjoyed it, but it didn’t spark quite as many “deep dive” learning moments as some of the others.

Balanced take:

Fun and well done—just not as rich in follow-up learning opportunities as our top favorites.
