The nurse in me knows our nervous systems crave calm just as much as our skin craves moisture. This kind of intentional self-care isn’t fluff—it’s supporting your health in real, tangible ways.
Motherhood is busy, loud, and full of demands—but that doesn’t mean we can’t carve out small, intentional moments to reset.
You don’t need a $200 spa trip to feel replenished. With a few simple ingredients and a little time to yourself, you can create a calming self-care ritual right at home.
Step 1: Set the Mood
Self-care starts with atmosphere. Light a candle, dim the lights, and put on some soft music. Create a little sanctuary where your nervous system can finally exhale.
Step 2: DIY Healing Clay Mask
This is my go-to mask for tired skin:
1-2 tablespoon healing clay
Apple cider vinegar (just enough to make a paste)
Mix together and apply evenly.
Let it sit until fully dry—usually 10–15 minutes.
Rinse gently with a warm washcloth. Your skin will feel clean, refreshed, and renewed.
My kids also love doing this mask with me (when it’s not me-time), just use half water and half vinegar so their skin doesn’t get irritated.
Step 3: Hair Love While You Wait
While your facial mask is drying, give your hair a drink of moisture. Here’s a simple DIY moisturizing hair mask:
2 tablespoons coconut oil (melted if solid)
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon plain yogurt or an egg
Apply from mid-shaft to ends, toss your hair in a bun, and let it soak in. Rinse thoroughly after about 20 minutes.
Step 4: Cooling Spritz & Moisturizer
After a recent facial, I fell in love with the cooling spritz they used—it was so refreshing I had to buy it! Now I recreate the spa experience completely at home.
A few sprays followed by my favorite lightweight moisturizer, and my skin feels pampered without the spa price tag.
Let me also add- I’ve had breakout prone skin for years but refused to use harmful chemicals. This facial routine, along with milk thistle supplements for liver detoxification and hormone balancing, have completely eliminated my breakouts!
Side note- all of these products would make a fantastic gift!
Step 5: Hot Bath & Cozy Finish
A soak in a warm bath can wash away the stress of the day. Add a few drops of essential oil or bath salts if you like. When you’re done, slip into your comfiest pajamas, maybe paint your nails, and savor the feeling of taking time for you.
Step 6: Emotional Healing
As moms, we give endlessly. It’s important to refill our own cup, too. While you soak or rest, repeat gentle mantras to yourself:
“I make a difference.”
“I deserve replenishment, love, and appreciation.”
“I am allowed to pause and restore.”
A Final Word of Encouragement
Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive—it’s about intention. By giving yourself these quiet moments, you’ll feel more centered, energized, and ready to pour back into your family.
You matter, mama, and your care matters too.
💛 If this reset feels good for your skin and body, imagine how powerful it can be when you also nourish your heart.
True self-care isn’t just about masks and baths—it’s also about caring for your emotional needs. That’s why I wrote my book on emotional needs: to help moms like us understand what we need most, how to refill ourselves, and how to show up with more peace and presence for the people we love. You deserve that kind of wholeness.
